Meen pollichathu

Meen pollichathu.....This is Emil,my brother's recipe. Every time I go to his house for holidays, he enters the kitchen, one evening to make this  and he enjoys doing it. And I should say it's very tasty....I enjoy eating it....:))))

Ingredients:

Fish (Aiykoora – King Fish / Wahoo / King Mackarel)- 4 pieces
coconut oil

Bigonion-5
greenchillies-4
Ginger- 1/2 cup
Garlic-1 cup
Small onion-1cup
turmericpowder
chillypowder
Corriander powder
Garam masala-1/2 tsp
Pepper powder-1 tsp

salt-to taste
curryleaf-4-5
Corriander leaves-1/2 cup
Tamarind water(Tamarind soaked in water for sometime and strained)- 1 cup

Vazhayila (banana leaf)- 4 pieces
Foilpaper- 4 pieces


Method:

Clean the fish and marinate with 1/2 tsp turmeric powder, 1tsp red chilly powder and salt and keep for an hour.Shallow fry the fish with coconut oil by flipping both sides and keep aside.


In a Kadai,saute finely chopped big onion,Slit greenchillies and curryleaves. saute until the onions become soft.
Grind small onion,Garlic and Ginger.



Ina small kadai,roast 1/2 tsp redchilly powder 1/2 tsp turmeric powder and 1/2 tsp corriander powder for 5 minutes in medium flame.



Add smallonion,garlic,Ginger paste and roasted powders to the big kaai and continue to saute the same.
Add tamarind water, salt ,pepper powder, gram masala and saute again.When done remove from fire.

Take banaleaf and cut into a square piece and Wilt the banana leaf for few seconds on both sides on the flame


Wipe the leaf with a cloth


Spread the cooked masala paste like a bed on banana leaf and place the fish on top,cover the top and sides of  the fish with masala  

wrap the fish in banana leaf by folding the banana leaf from three sides.



Wrap this in aluminium foil and keep aside.

Cook the fish parcel  in a frying fan for 10 -15 minutes by flipping each sides.
And there meenpollichathu is ready...........Enjoy with appam, vattayappam chappathi etc etc....
